It’s been made clear by Microsoft that World of Warcraft will not be added to Xbox Game Pass. The misunderstanding arose when some users received an email featuring a World of Warcraft advertisement with the phrase “Join Game Pass,” which led them to assume the game would become part of the subscription service.
The subject line of the email itself invited gaming enthusiasts to play popular Activision titles like Call of Duty, Diablo IV, and World of Warcraft, among others, through Game Pass. Interestingly, the part about World of Warcraft in the email showcased an icon that hinted at an upcoming Xbox console launch for the game. However, Microsoft has recently clarified that this information was mistakenly included in the email.
The official Game Pass Twitter account apologized, stating that an error occurred on their end which led to an email about World of Warcraft, a game not included in our service, being sent out. They mentioned that they would be sending out a correction email shortly to those who received the initial erroneous message.
In reaction to the suggestion, several individuals expressed their desire to see World of Warcraft on Xbox Game Pass. One individual put it this way, “The oversight here is that it isn’t part of Game Pass yet, but it definitely should be.
In 2023, Microsoft took over Activision Blizzard and subsequently expanded their Game Pass offerings with numerous games from the acquired company. Notably, World of Warcraft isn’t included, likely because it operates on a monthly subscription basis.
Regarding a console edition of World of Warcraft, no official plans have been made public as of now. Nevertheless, following the acquisition, the game’s executive producer mentioned in 2023 that Activision Blizzard has given consideration to this possibility.
