On August 27, 2025, No Man’s Sky experienced one of its biggest surprises yet. This unexpected event took everyone by surprise, as we had anticipated Worlds Part 2 to be the major announcement and believed Hello Games would focus on Light No Fire thereafter (without a confirmed release date). However, they unveiled the Voyagers 6.0 update instead, an ultimate creativity toolkit that allows us to explore our creative potential. Almost everyone can enjoy it, except Switch players who are still waiting for its arrival on their consoles. The question now is: how much longer will they have to wait?
Nearly two weeks after the Voyagers update launched, Switch players are still waiting
As a dedicated Switch gamer, I’ve often found myself in the position where my friends on PC and other consoles are already enjoying game updates, while I’m still patiently waiting. It’s not solely an issue with No Man’s Sky; it’s deeply rooted in Nintendo’s certification process. When developers submit an update for our console, it needs to pass through Nintendo’s approval pipeline, which typically causes a delay of about a week or two before we can finally dive into the new content.
At one point, Switch players didn’t have to endure long waits for new NMS content. The Beacon update synchronized its release on July 23, 2025, across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms, introducing settlement mechanics. Interestingly, the Switch and Switch 2 versions arrived only two days later, on July 25, demonstrating that Hello Games could indeed coordinate a launch simultaneously across all systems.
Tomorrow, on September 10, signifies the end of a fortnight-long wait for Switch players, eagerly anticipating the arrival of the long-awaited update. The community’s patience is starting to wear thin, and it’s evident in their online discussions on Reddit. One user, Storm35r, expressed his feelings by saying:
It’s become quite frustrating that it’s taking so long. Had I realized Nintendo behaves this way, I would not have purchased the Switch.
It’s quite comprehensible how one might feel exasperated, given the abundance of creative community projects. In fact, there’s someone traversing the cosmos in a replica of Clippy!
It seems that the release of Voyagers on Nintendo consoles might be postponed due to some technical issues. Either the intricate nature of the game is causing delays in Nintendo’s approval process, or Hello Games is still busy resolving any bugs that may have arisen during development.
