In almost a decade, the number of No Man’s Sky players has reached its peak, surpassing 110,000 simultaneous players on Steam for the first time since 2016.
As reported by SteamDB, the significant milestone was achieved on September 7, 2025, not long after Hello Games released their latest major update known as Voyagers. This free update has brought in new Corvette-class starships, enhanced base-building options, and introduced fresh co-op features to the game.
The captivating aspects of this game have enticed both newcomers and seasoned gamers to revisit the planet-exploring survival title, No Man’s Sky. Initially, during its controversial debut in 2016, the game boasted a peak of 212,000 simultaneous players on Steam. However, player numbers dropped significantly as criticism grew over features that were initially absent.
Over time, there’s been a remarkable transformation in No Man’s Sky, one of the most significant shifts ever seen in the gaming world. The developers at Hello Games have consistently rolled out numerous free updates, including virtual reality support, living ships, fleets, and diverse new planetary ecosystems.
No Man’s Sky player count surges following latest update
Nonetheless, the renewed energy can be traced back to an update for Voyager, which seems to have sparked it. Last weekend, No Man’s Sky even surpassed popular multiplayer games such as Destiny 2 and Warframe in terms of active players at its peak.
The game is not only positioned within notable comeback narratives of 2025 but surpasses Hollow Knight’s resurgence, with an impressive 20,367 players logging in after the Silksong release date was announced.

In the first few hours following its launch, Hollow Knight’s Silksong surpassed a player base of 550,000. Meanwhile, No Man’s Sky’s comeback, close to a decade after its initial release, showcases its significant journey from its turbulent early days.
Initially criticized for a lackluster debut, No Man’s Sky has since transformed into one of the gaming industry’s remarkable comeback tales.
