No Law Is a First-Person Adventure Steeped In Vigilante Justice

Neon Giant, the studio behind the action game The Ascent, revealed their next project at The Game Awards: No Law. This new game is a dark and intense first-person shooter where players follow one man’s journey to get revenge.

Grey Harker, a former soldier, hoped to find peace in the vibrant city of Port Desire after leaving the military. But his quiet life is shattered when he’s attacked, forcing him to investigate who was behind it and why.

Okay, so in No Law, you can play Harker however you want – you can go in guns blazing, or be super sneaky and try to avoid fights altogether. I was reading an interview with the game’s creators, Tor Frick and Arcade Berg, and they were talking about how much your choices actually matter in the game. Apparently, Port Desire, the city in the game, will really react to what you do, so it sounds like you can really shape the world around you!

Instead of labeling actions as simply ‘stealth’ or ‘shooting,’ we’re focusing on how those choices affect the game’s city,” Berg says. “Did your actions cause damage or explosions? Even a stealthy approach can be noisy – like if you shoot an explosive barrel, people across the city will notice and react to the disturbance.”

Frick explains that Port Desire isn’t a huge city, but it feels full of life. The game world is incredibly detailed, and everything you do matters. There are no right or wrong choices – your actions are always meaningful and contribute to your unique experience.

Some players who enjoyed The Ascent might be surprised by the move to a first-person view, but Berg assures them it’s a natural step for the development team. He explains that many at Neon Giant previously worked on first-person shooter games, and The Ascent was actually the project where they tried something different.

According to Berg, creating The Ascent presented new challenges for the team, as they hadn’t previously developed isometric or RPG-style games. They really enjoyed tackling those hurdles. Now, returning to first-person shooters feels comfortable and confident. Berg explains that delivering polished and satisfying gunplay is something they’ve excelled at for the past 25 years.

The new game, No Law, is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. A release date hasn’t been announced yet. You can find a complete list of winners and nominees from The Game Awards elsewhere.
