No Big Deal, Just Jennifer Lawrence Casually Revealing She’s Related To An MCU Star

Superhero movies have been incredibly popular for years, and continue to be a major force in entertainment. Though Marvel and DC are currently battling for box office success, the X-Men films feel like a thing of the past. Actress Jennifer Lawrence played Mystique in four X-Men movies, all of which you can now watch on Disney+. And surprisingly, it turns out she’s connected to one of the very first Avengers – a fact that’s completely blown my mind!

People who have followed the Marvel Cinematic Universe from the beginning feel a strong connection to its characters, particularly the first Avengers team. They’ll be excited to hear what Jennifer Lawrence shared while promoting her new film, Die My Love, alongside Robert Pattinson for MUBI. During a conversation with Pattinson, she revealed:

Did you know that me and Jeremy Renner are third cousins? We found out like a few years ago.

Can you believe that Jeremy Renner and Jennifer Lawrence are related, and just found out recently? It’s amazing! Now everyone’s hoping to see them team up in future Marvel films – a family crossover would be incredible!

Jennifer Lawrence didn’t share many details, but I’m really wondering how she and Jeremy Renner are related, and how they discovered the connection. Did they find out through a DNA service like 23andMe, or did it come up in conversation? I’m guessing a lot of other people are curious too.

Disney+ offers access to Marvel Cinematic Universe and X-Men films. You can start streaming with ads for as little as $11.99 per month. For an ad-free experience, it’s $18.99 monthly, or you can save 16% by paying $189.99 annually. See the deal here.

Jeremy Renner is officially part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, but Jennifer Lawrence won’t be returning as Mystique. The original Mystique actress, Rebecca Romijn, will be taking on the role again in the new movie. This means Hawkeye and Mystique might appear together, but they won’t be playing family members – sadly!

I’m completely fascinated by the connection between Lawrence and the actor who plays Hawkeye! I’m especially curious about when they discovered they were cousins. Did they know before Renner’s accident with the snowplow? And if so, how did she react when he was so seriously injured? Honestly, I can’t stop thinking about them being related – it’s wild!

Fans like me are excited about the possibility of seeing Mystique and Hawkeye team up, but it probably won’t happen. Jennifer Lawrence had skin problems because of the heavy makeup required for the role, which is why she wasn’t always blue in the X-Men films. Now that Marvel is creating a new X-Men movie, it seems unlikely she’ll reprise the part.

You can now watch the X-Men films on Disney+. Meanwhile, Jeremy Renner is set to reprise his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, scheduled for release on December 18th of next year as part of the 2026 film lineup.
