Nippon Ichi Software president Tetsuhisa Seko passed away at 55 years old

On January 24th, it was announced that Tetsuhisa Seko, the president of Nippon Ichi Software, has sadly passed away at the age of 55. Since joining the company in March 2002, Seko had a long and distinguished career at Nippon Ichi, initially overseeing their Business Content and Network Content divisions before ascending to the role of president in 2023.

As a passionate fan, let me share some insights about how our beloved company president came into the picture. To understand this journey, we need to rewind back to August 2022, when the creator of the Disgaea series and former Nippon Ichi president Sohei Niikawa parted ways with the company. In his absence, our founder and chairman Koichi Kitazumi took over as the president. However, by April 2023, Kitazumi felt it was time for a generational change to secure the company’s future. Consequently, in July 2023, he appointed Tetsuhisa Seko as our new president, allowing him to focus more on his role as chairman once again.

During Tetsuhisa Seko’s leadership as NIS’ president, we witnessed global launches of Rhapsody: Marl Kingdom Chronicles and ongoing Japan-only releases for Bar Stella Abyss and Disgaea 7 Complete, with Asagi as potential DLC for existing players. The company intends to launch Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero globally and Cladun X3 for Japanese consoles. Regrettably, Seko-san will not be present for the unveiling of these new game releases.

The Japanese statement also noted that with Seko’s passing, there is one fewer board member. However, they still have a sufficient number of members to meet the minimum requirement as stated in Japanese regulations. It remains unclear how Chairman Koichi Kitazumi will proceed to fill the vacant position of president once more, in line with his vision for renewal.
