Nioh 3 Ver. 1.04 update releases with Thunderous equipment sets distributed to all players

So, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja just dropped a new update for Nioh 3, bringing it to version 1.04. It’s got a bunch of balance tweaks, which is always good, but the coolest part is they’re adding these new ‘Thunderous Equipment Sets‘! They’re celebrating Nioh 3 selling a million copies, and the whole Nioh series hitting over 10 million – pretty awesome, right?

When you start the game, all players can immediately get the Thunderous Warrior and Thunderous Ninja outfits through the Boons section in the Preparation menu. This gives you Level 1 versions of each outfit, which are considered Rare, as well as instructions (Smithing Texts) on how to craft them at the Blacksmith. You can also change your character’s appearance to show off the Thunderous gear without actually equipping it, using the Appearance Change menu.

■Adjustments/Feature Enhancements

I was so excited to hear that the developers are giving us the Thunderous Warrior Armor and Thunderous Ninja Attire as free bonus equipment! It’s their way of celebrating Nioh 3 selling a million copies, and the whole Nioh series hitting over ten million! What a great way to thank all the fans.

We’ve boosted the amount of Glory you earn when finishing multiplayer missions.

Okay, so after finishing Shogun’s Journey, I’ve noticed I’m getting better gear more often! Basically, the chances of getting equipment with really good bonus stats (+values) have been bumped up. It’s awesome because it means I can upgrade my character faster now.

We’ve made it easier to improve your Soul Matches. Now, you’ll need fewer materials if you’re using an item that’s a higher level than anything you’ve already used.

・Made it easier for the Ninjutsu Flame Breath to hit enemies.

We’ve improved the ability of some Ninjutsu and Onmyo Magic attacks to connect with enemies, even when they’re on higher or lower ground.

We’ve fixed an issue where strong or quick attacks wouldn’t always register if you pressed the buttons immediately after jumping. Now, those attacks should consistently go off as intended.

・Made changes so that bosses will no longer focus their attacks on a single player.

・Adjusted the lock-on camera to make it easier to see the movements of Onryoki.

We’ve adjusted the ‘Unmatched Warrior’ set bonus to reduce how much it lessened the duration of negative effects from melee attacks. It was previously stronger than we intended.

Okay, so I noticed they’ve tweaked things so that enemies are more likely to take extra damage when I hit them with ranged weapons, especially if I’m rocking the Unmatched Warrior and Straight and True set bonuses. Basically, those bonuses now have a better chance of actually doing their thing – making enemies more vulnerable to my shots. It feels good to know my build is a little stronger now!

We’ve updated the game so that when a Merchant drops multiple Sudama Soul Cores at once, all but the first one will automatically go straight into your item box.

Added an exclamation mark to tabs indicating new items are available to create through Blacksmith Forging.

・Increased the limit of certain forging materials that can be possessed.

Players can now trade Daidara Bocchi’s Soul Core to the Merchant after finishing the Myth Disaster at Lake Hamana.

We’ve updated the game so that Sacred Arrow Amulets now automatically recharge whenever you pray at a shrine.

・Added system settings to disable the auto-refill of usable items.

・Added system settings to enable auto-lock upon obtaining equipment with rare special effect icons.

You can now change how Gifts are displayed in the Resting Rites and Make an Offering menus through the system settings.

・Made it possible to Return from Battle Scrolls and Mission Mode Expeditions via the main menu.

We updated the map so that the explanation of what each icon means is now visible for every icon.

Players can now see exactly what bonuses equipment provides when viewing rewards earned from Battle Scrolls.

・Made improvements to the visibility of Soul Cores set in the Onmyo Box.

・Made the player character easier to see when adjusting equipment appearance.

・Added Type 6 to the Pupil Type settings in Character Creation.

・Made improvements so that tilting the control sticks slightly will register more easily.

・Added a function enabling players to copy Character Creation Codes to their clipboard.

We’ve updated the game so that cutscenes will now run at 60 frames per second if your settings allow, instead of being locked at 30 FPS.

Players can now customize the HUD to change how the button for swapping melee weapons works in the system settings.

・Added a function to pause the game where possible when a controller has been unplugged.

■Weapon-Related Adjustments/Bug Fixes

●Samurai weapon: sword

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know I fixed a bug! It was stopping my Martial Art, Severing Spin, from getting the boosts it should have when I leveled up my Arts Proficiency. Now it’s working as intended – finally seeing those improvements in battle!

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know I fixed a bug! Before, I could sometimes break an enemy’s guard with my Martial Arts skills, Haze and Water Shadow, even if I shouldn’t have been able to – like, even when their attack couldn’t be parried. It’s all sorted now, so things should feel fairer and more balanced in combat.

We fixed a bug where enemies would briefly vanish during certain camera movements, particularly when using the Martial Art Haze II. We also resolved an issue with Haze II where attacks wouldn’t register if camera animations were disabled.

●Samurai weapon: axe

・Made it easier for the Martial Art Stone Mallet to land.

I was having trouble with my character’s attack timing – specifically, the Lumber Chop Swift martial art with the Oppressive Strength skill. It wasn’t letting me automatically counterattack when I got hit while charging up the move. But good news! The developers fixed it, so now that counterattack is working as intended. It’s a small thing, but it makes a big difference in combat!

We’ve simplified performing the follow-up Martial Art move after a successful parry with the Spinning Slide. Now, simply hold the Triangle button to execute it.

We fixed a bug that prevented players from quickly performing the Transformed Art Lumber Chop after shortening its charge time with the Martial Art Spinning Slide parry.

●Ninja weapon: splitstaff

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know I fixed a weird bug. Sometimes, if I tried to do a martial arts move right after a quick attack, it would just do another quick attack instead. Super annoying, but it’s fixed now! You should be able to seamlessly chain those moves together like you’re supposed to.

We fixed a bug where players could unexpectedly move backward a long way after using the Martial Art Kite Cross in mid-air.

We fixed a bug where using the Tile Shaker martial art to counter a grab would accidentally cause a Burst Break. Now, countering with Tile Shaker will work as intended.

●Ninja weapon: tonfa

We fixed a bug where quickly dodging and then using certain martial arts moves would cause your Arts Proficiency to keep increasing when it shouldn’t.

We fixed a bug where quickly switching stances after using a switchglaive’s Martial Art Flash Attack would cause the weapon to change back to what you were using previously. Now, the switchglaive should remain equipped as expected.

I’m so glad they fixed that bug! It was really frustrating not being able to parry with martial arts when enemies used ninja weapons like swords, kusarigama, or tonfa. Now I can actually defend myself properly against those quick and strong attacks!

We fixed a bug in Samurai Style that prevented players from smoothly switching from running to walking while their weapon was sheathed.

We fixed a bug where a powerful attack would sometimes happen unintentionally when pressing the Martial Arts 1 button during a jump while using ninja swords or tonfa with certain controllers (types B, E, or F).

We fixed a bug in the “1572 CE – Warring States” scenario where Naito Masatoyo would occasionally disappear from the game even if he wasn’t defeated. This prevented players from getting certain items, so we’ve made sure he stays in the game as long as he’s not beaten.
