Nioh 3 release date confirmed for February 6, 2026

Koei Tecmo announced at a recent State of Play event that Nioh 3 will be released on February 6, 2026.

The latest trailer reveals that Nioh 3 won’t be limited to the Sengoku period. The story will take the player character through different time periods, including the Edo and Heian eras, and they’ll even encounter historical figures like Queen Himiko, who lived between the 2nd and 3rd centuries.

Currently, Koei Tecmo hasn’t released the Japanese voiceover trailer on their official Japanese channel; it’s still only available through the Japanese State of Play stream. However, Sony has published the English trailer on the PlayStation channel, and you can watch it below.

Just wanted to let everyone know, Koei Tecmo dropped the Japanese trailer separately, along with an English press release! I’ve included links to both new trailers and what they say about the game down below. I’m so excited!

The latest update from the TGS 2025 stream revealed more about the game’s characters. The hosts strongly suggested that the hero, Takechiyo, and the villain, Kunimatsu, are inspired by the same historical individuals. Takechiyo is the childhood name of Tokugawa Iemitsu, the third Tokugawa shogun, while Kunimatsu was a childhood name used by Tokugawa Tadanaga. Additionally, Queen Himiko will appear in the game, despite living in a different historical period than the Sengoku era.

KOEI TECMO America and Team NINJA have announced that Nioh 3, the newest installment in the popular dark samurai action RPG series, will launch on February 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. Pre-orders are now open for both platforms. To mark the announcement, a new story trailer directed by Shinji Higuchi has been released, offering a glimpse into the game’s narrative, characters, and gameplay features.

Nioh 3 puts you in the role of Tokugawa Takechiyo, a young lord destined to become Shogun during a chaotic period in Japanese history. However, his younger brother, Tokugawa Kunimatsu, fueled by jealousy and dark powers, attempts to seize power. Kunimatsu unleashes an army of demons, shattering the peace and throwing Japan into turmoil. With the help of his spirit guardian, Kusanagi, Takechiyo must overcome these challenges and fulfill his destiny to become Shogun.

Nioh 3 will feature a much larger and more expansive story than previous games in the series. Players will journey through different time periods and locations, including areas from the Sengoku period like Edo Castle and the Tōtōmi region (previously seen in the Alpha demo), and the newly revealed Kyoto from the Heian period. This time, you’ll be able to freely explore these eras in open environments with stunning and unique landscapes. Throughout his dangerous mission to stop his brother’s plans, Takechiyo will battle a variety of yokai and other formidable foes, all while facing the challenges of the Crucible.

Throughout the game, players will meet historical figures from different periods, such as Takeda Shingen, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, and Minamoto no Yoritomo. Beloved characters from previous games will return alongside Tokugawa Takechiyo, including favorites like Hattori Hanzo, Honda Tadakatsu, and Saito Fuku. Adding to the cast, Tao Tsuchiya and Kanata Hongo will voice Himiko, the enigmatic queen of Yamatai-koku, and Tokugawa Kunimatsu. To celebrate the announcement, two behind-the-scenes videos have been released.

Besides the regular version of the game, players can pre-order a Digital Deluxe Edition online. This edition includes the full game, a special pre-order bonus with unique armor and outfits, a Digital Deluxe bonus with 14 powerful weapons and a charm, two downloadable content packs, and an extra charm with the Season Pass. The Season Pass, which includes those two DLCs and the charm, is also available separately. A physical SteelBook® edition is also available for pre-order, and it comes with the base game and two exclusive DLCs. No matter which version you choose, you’ll receive a limited-time Early Purchase Bonus available from the PlayStation™ Store and Steam® shortly after the game launches.
