Nintendo’s Second Weird Baby Short Introduces Pikmin To The Mix

Following a day of guessing and confusion, Nintendo has shared another short animated video featuring a baby and Pikmin interacting with objects in a room, like blocks and toys. Despite the video, Nintendo hasn’t officially announced a new game, film, or television series – but they haven’t ruled it out either.

Nintendo released a new video on its app called “Close to You,” similar to the animated short from yesterday. This time, the video shows Pikmin causing playful trouble in a baby’s room. Aside from the addition of blue, yellow, and red Pikmin, the two videos are nearly the same, and neither hints at any future Pikmin games or projects.

Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Pikmin, shared earlier this year that he’d like to see a Pikmin movie or TV show. He’s previously worked on Pikmin shorts, which Nintendo showcases on its website.

The Pikmin series began in 2001 with the original Pikmin game on Nintendo GameCube and has continued for nearly 25 years. While Pikmin 4, released on Switch in 2023, is the latest main installment, the franchise has also expanded with spin-off titles like the mobile games Pikmin Bloom (2021) and Pikmin Finder (2023).

Nintendo announced last month that the next Super Mario Bros. movie will be called The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and will hit theaters on April 3rd. Some people thought a recent animated short might give us a first look at a young Rosalina and hint at what’s to come in the new movie.
