Nintendo Won’t Shy Away From Continuing To “Try Anything”

Nintendo is known for taking risks and experimenting with new ideas. From cardboard toys connected to their games to the innovative Wii console and its unique controller, they’ve consistently tried things others haven’t. Recently, legendary game designer and Nintendo executive Shigeru Miyamoto shared some thoughts on the company’s approach during a financial presentation.

Nintendo believes there’s always potential for improvement, no matter how successful something is. For instance, even though The Super Mario Bros. Movie did very well in theaters, they weren’t satisfied with just reaching the top spot – they were already thinking about how to do even better next time.

Following the huge success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, Nintendo is continuing to invest in film production. A movie based on The Legend of Zelda is currently being made, and another Super Mario movie, based on Super Mario Galaxy, is planned for release around 2026.

Miyamoto suggests that certain Nintendo franchises could become so popular their sales would extend beyond what’s typical for entertainment products.

He explained his belief that entertainment has limitless potential. He sees plenty of opportunities for Nintendo Switch to grow in markets around the world, and highlighted Nintendo’s willingness to experiment and try new things.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the top-selling game for the original Nintendo Switch, and Mario Kart 7 held that title on the 3DS. When asked if another game might surpass Mario Kart’s sales record on Nintendo’s current console, Miyamoto said it’s possible, and he shared a story about how the original Pokémon Red and Blue games were released as two separate versions to explain his thinking.

Miyamoto explained that innovative concepts often come from individuals like Pokemon director Satoshi Tajiri, who constantly strive to improve upon existing work.
