So, this streamer, Jesse Keighin – he goes by EveryGameGuru – just got hit with a pretty hefty fine from Nintendo. Apparently, they sued him back in 2024 because he was streaming games early – like, before they even came out – and sharing links to those Yuzu and Ryujinx emulators. Now he has to pay them $17,500 in damages. Ouch! Definitely a reminder to be careful what you stream and share, especially when it comes to copyrighted stuff.
After being accused of illegally streaming leaked Nintendo games since 2022, Keighin responded defiantly online, claiming his influence was greater than the company’s. Nintendo sued him, alleging his actions caused millions of dollars in lost sales. Keighin apparently didn’t prepare a legal defense, which resulted in a judgment against him.
Nintendo asked the court to permanently block Keighin and anyone he worked with from using emulators, and also requested the destruction of all unauthorized hardware and software. However, the Colorado court denied this request, finding it too vague and excessive.
Nintendo is well-known for aggressively protecting its intellectual property through lawsuits. Recently, they sued James Williams, who ran a Reddit page that encouraged the illegal sharing of Switch games. Nintendo is seeking $4.5 million from Williams, claiming he operated websites offering pirated Switch games and sold those illegal copies. Last year, Nintendo successfully shut down programs that allowed people to play Switch and 3DS games on other devices, and they are currently in a legal dispute with the creators of the game Palworld.
