With Nintendo Direct still about two months off, one might wonder what gaming enthusiasts are expected to do in the meantime. There’s a strong likelihood that a new Mario Kart game will debut alongside the upcoming console, but rumors about its price have become somewhat repetitive. The details surrounding the mouse feature on Switch 2 and potential upgrades for the original Switch Joy-Cons have been thoroughly discussed. However, a fresh theory is circulating now, suggesting that the display of Switch 2 could be rotated by simply turning the console, and that the Joy-Cons could be attached to opposite ends. If this turns out to be true, it could indeed be a significant development.
Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?
Based on Nintendo’s recent patent drawings, it appears that the potential design for Switch 2 could enable users to attach Joy-Cons upside down, making it possible to use the console in an reversed position. This innovative feature would be made possible by the controllers slotting into side positions, held securely by powerful magnets. Additionally, the display on Switch 2 is intended to rotate 180 degrees when Joy-Cons are connected upside down.
In other words, this gives us the option to decide if the headphone jack and USB ports are situated either at the top or bottom of the device. At last! No more awkward postures when playing on your knees while the console is charging. It’s surprising that Nintendo didn’t consider this earlier, as Valve did with the Steam Deck.
But consider this question: if that’s accurate, why do Joy-Cons come in different colors corresponding to the console’s sides and feature + and – symbols to avoid confusion? I find it hard to believe, it appears more like an outlandish theory. For now, let’s concentrate on possibilities that seem more plausible – such as playing Civilization 7 on the Switch 2.
Alrighty, looks like we’ve got ourselves a new topic for some chuckles online! One of the funniest twists I’ve seen so far is dubbing it ‘The Aussie Switch 2’. After all, who wouldn’t want to laugh about a new console from Down Under?
Based on the initial teaser, it appears that there are only two USB ports visible. What remains uncertain is if we’ll ever require both simultaneously – perhaps charging a device through the docking station while using another for something else, like a camera? We’ll find out more on April 2nd.
