Following numerous leaks, whispers, and years of anticipation, Nintendo officially unveiled the Switch 2 on January 16, via a teaser video on YouTube. It’s no surprise that fans are eagerly waiting to find out when they can pre-order this new gaming console. Regrettably, at present, there’s no option for pre-ordering the Switch 2, but you can register for pre-order alerts at Best Buy.
Without sharing detailed hardware specifications yet, the teaser hints at further disclosure regarding technical details, features, and other games in a Switch 2 Direct broadcast airing on April 2. It’s expected that the release date and price for the Switch 2 will also be unveiled during this event. Consequently, it seems probable that preorders for the Switch 2 will become available shortly after the April Direct.
It’s expected that pre-orders for the new Mario Kart game, along with any other newly released games, will go live at approximately the same time.
It’s anticipated that Nintendo will release enough Switch 2 units during its first year to meet consumer demand and prevent the supply shortages experienced by the original Switch. Given the success and ongoing popularity of the Switch, it’s likely that there will be a high demand for the Switch 2. While Nintendo may have more initial stock for the Switch 2 than the original model, we expect that the preorders will be fierce due to high interest, so we’ll make sure to provide updates once preorders are announced.
Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games
Though we may have a prolonged anticipation for the April release and the yet-to-be-revealed launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, fortunately, there are exciting new Nintendo Switch games on the horizon to keep us engaged until that time.
The highly anticipated Donkey Kong Country Returns HD has hit Nintendo Switch shelves, while Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition is set for release on March 20th and can now be pre-ordered! Additionally, a brand new Rune Factory game is slated to drop in May.
The game “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond” will be released on the original Nintendo Switch around 2025. Since it’s a Switch 1 game, it might come out before the launch of Switch 2 later this year. However, some people believe that it could be a cross-generational title, available for both Switch 1 and Switch 2 at the same time. Preorders for “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond” have not been made available yet. Amazon has stopped taking preorders for an earlier version of the game that was listed after its initial reveal in 2017, which suggests that the game may be releasing soon.
In the meantime, enthusiasts of the Metroid series can reserve copies of the forthcoming Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective art book and the Metroid Prime 2026 Wall Calendar, both of which are officially licensed goods set to debut in July.
Among the select Nintendo Switch first-party games slated for release in 2025, Pokemon Legends: Z-A is one that hasn’t been showcased much since it was initially unveiled during a Nintendo Direct presentation last year. Similar to Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, there are speculations among fans that Pokemon Legends: Z-A might be a multi-generation title. Many games like these have been the subject of rumors for Switch 2, although with the April 2 Direct approaching rapidly, we may soon learn more about its potential launch lineup.
