As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the magical world of Nintendo’s handheld systems, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nostalgia as rumors about the Switch 2 swirl around us. The idea of holding a new Nintendo device, exploring its features, and diving into a plethora of games is an experience that never grows old for me.

Although Nintendo remains silent about a potential successor to the Switch, speculation surrounding the rumored Switch 2 is rapidly escalating. The most recent chatter originates from a Reddit user who claims not only to have seen the handheld device with its dock, but also to have physically handled it. Furthermore, this individual asserts that the system will indeed be called the Switch 2.

According to a report by The Verge, they’ve had discussions with a Redditor known as NextHandheld, and now find their claims plausible after examining two images. Notably, The Verge mentions that the emblem for Switch 2 appears similar to a mockup created by a Reddit user, which is displayed below. Furthermore, the magnetic Joy-con controllers, previously speculated about, seem consistent with this information, as well as new joystick designs aimed at addressing the drifting issue experienced in the current Nintendo Switch system.

Regarding the dock, there’s speculation that the Switch 2 may draw additional power when connected to it. The hint of vents or fans on the new dock suggests that the system could operate more efficiently in docked mode (rated at 60W) compared to handheld mode (rated at 45W). It seems that the new dock will retain the same ports as the current one: a couple of USB-A outputs, HDMI, ethernet, and a single USB-C port, which is likely for powering the device.

It’s worth noting that The Verge came across an image depicting the potential design of Switch 2, featuring a unique U-shaped kickstand reminiscent of Switch OLED’s sturdier and wider stand, except with the central portion of the plastic removed to form the U shape.

By the end of March 2025, it has been confirmed that Nintendo will unveil its upcoming product, which is expected to spur significant expansion within the video game industry in the coming year.

I’m thrilled to share that Switch has recently smashed a significant sales milestone in the U.S., making it the second-highest selling game console of all time! This little powerhouse has outdone the iconic PS2, leaving me in awe as it trails only behind the legendary Nintendo DS. What an achievement!
