With confirmations coming in about global events featuring the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 this Spring, it’s unsurprising that some individuals are trying to exploit the situation. As previously announced by GamesRadar+, these opportunists, known as scalpers, have been found online, attempting to sell tickets for their Nintendo Switch 2 experiences at an exorbitant $900 price tag. This amount is significantly more than even the highest projected cost of a Nintendo Switch 2 itself. Needless to say, refrain from participating in this sale, as it may prove to be unattainable.
Nintendo Switch 2 experience tickets are already being sold by scalpers, despite Nintendo’s efforts
Following the unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2 this month, there’s been a lot of buzz and anticipation for more details. The internet is swarming with various speculations regarding the potential features of the upcoming console. One popular theory proposes that the updated Joy-Con controllers may function similarly to a computer mouse. Nintendo has scheduled a Direct event exclusively focusing on the second Switch for April 2nd, followed by opportunities where people can actually test out the new console.
Registration for the events ended on January 26th, followed by emails being sent out on Monday to inform applicants whether they were invited or not. Today, waitlists are anticipated to be made available as a second opportunity for attendance, but please note that it does not assure a spot. Given the high anticipation and excitement, it’s no wonder that some individuals have started selling tickets to the events on sites like eBay for significantly inflated prices.
Nintendo explicitly clarifies in their FAQ that “event tickets are not transferable and can only be used once.” However, this hasn’t stopped some individuals from attempting to exploit the circumstances.
A significant concern when it comes to Nintendo’s upcoming console announcement is finding an effective strategy for dealing with scalpers. The rapid selling out and subsequent reselling of limited-edition products, such as the PlayStation 5 30th Anniversary Edition, serves as a reminder of this persistent issue, especially in the gaming world.
At present, those without an initial ticket can only cross their fingers and hope for a spot on the waitlist. If not, they’ll need to exercise patience until the console becomes publicly available. Here’s hoping the wait isn’t too prolonged.
