Nintendo Switch 2 Could Sell 20 Million Units In First Year, Analyst Says

As a dedicated fan, I can’t contain my excitement after months of whispers, the Nintendo Switch 2 has officially been unveiled this morning! Unlike its predecessors, Nintendo’s upcoming console is gearing up to take on the formidable power of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. However, according to one industry expert, Nintendo seems to have steered clear of a costly blunder that affected the initial rollout of Sony and Microsoft’s previous systems.

Robin Zhu, an analyst from Sanford C. Bernstein, informed Bloomberg that Nintendo has prepared a supply chain for the release of Switch 2, aiming to avoid a repeat of the chip shortage experienced in 2020. Additionally, Zhu suggested that with its well-established supply chain, Nintendo may be able to sell around 20 million Switch 2 consoles by 2025. Recently, Mat Piscatella from Circana forecasted that Switch 2 could sell approximately 4.3 million consoles in the United States this year alone.

The eagerness surrounding the unveiling of the Switch 2 indicates a strong desire for the upcoming device, yet it faces a challenging journey to match the original Switch’s sales of 146 million units over its lifetime. The price point at which the Switch 2 is offered could significantly impact how swiftly it finds favor among gamers. As of now, Nintendo has remained tight-lipped about the console’s projected cost.

To date, Nintendo hasn’t officially announced any games for the upcoming Switch 2. However, a possible new Mario Kart game was hinted in the initial reveal trailer. Further details about additional games will likely be unveiled during the next Nintendo Direct on April 2. For those eager to test the Switch 2 early, there will be demo sessions available in several cities worldwide from April onwards. Nintendo has disclosed that the Switch 2’s backward compatibility with original Switch games will be restricted. As of now, there’s no set date for the release of Switch 2 yet, but some speculate it might launch in June.
