I’ve been a Nintendo fan for as long as I can remember, and I always imagined how amazing it would be to see my favorite games – like Super Mario, Zelda, Pikmin, and Metroid – turned into movies that really capture the spirit of the originals. It’s been a dream of mine to see those worlds come to life on the big screen!
It looks like we’re finally entering a new age of video game adaptations! Nintendo started things off successfully with The Super Mario Bros. Movie and has hinted at many more projects to come.
Nintendo Teases a Steady Wave of Film Adaptations for the Years Ahead

Nintendo announced in its financial report this Wednesday that it plans to expand into larger-screen entertainment options in the coming years to maintain its current success.
Nintendo plans to regularly release movies based on its popular games, starting with a Super Mario Galaxy movie in 2026. According to Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, a live-action Legend of Zelda movie is planned for 2027, with more films to follow.
It appears Nintendo is planning to release movies more frequently – no more long waits like the one for the next Mario animated film! This means we can start looking forward to even more of their games being adapted for the big screen.
Furukawa also stressed Nintendo’s commitment to being closely involved in every step of these film projects – from the initial ideas and creation to the final production. Notably, the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto is currently co-producing all three movies that are in development.
Shigeru Miyamoto, a key figure at Nintendo, is co-producing both The Super Mario Bros. Movie and the planned Super Mario Galaxy Movie with Chris Meledandri from Illumination. He’s also co-producing the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie with Avi Arad of Arad Productions, and has been involved in its development from the very beginning, according to Nintendo’s Furukawa.
So, now everyone’s wondering: which Nintendo game should get a movie next? I’d love to see either Animal Crossing or Metroid – they both have the potential to be amazing on the big screen!
