Okay, so as a Nintendo fan, I just heard some news that’s a bit of a bummer. They’re increasing prices on almost everything! That means the Switch itself – both the original and the new Switch 2 when it comes out – will cost more. Plus, our Nintendo Switch Online memberships are going up in price too. It’s not ideal, but hopefully the quality of their games and services will still be worth it.
Nintendo announced on May 8th that rising prices are due to shifts in the market and its overall business expectations.
Starting May 25, 2026, the price of the Japanese Nintendo Switch 2 will increase from ¥49,980 (about $318) to ¥59,980 (around $382) – a price hike of approximately $70.
The price of all Nintendo Switch models – including the standard Switch, the OLED version, and the Switch Lite – is increasing. The OLED model will see the biggest jump, rising from ¥37,980 (around $242) to ¥47,980 (approximately $305).
So, it’s not just Japan – Nintendo just announced that prices are going up in the US, Canada, and Europe too, later this year. It looks like we’re all going to be paying more for our games and consoles soon!
Nintendo raises price of Switch 2 and online service
Starting September 1, 2026, the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 will increase in several regions. In the US, it will go up to $499.99 from $449.99. Canadian customers will see a price increase to $679.99 from $629.99, and in Europe, the price will rise from €469.99 to €499.99.
Nintendo announced that Nintendo Switch Online memberships will cost more. In Japan, a one-year individual membership will rise from ¥2,400 to ¥3,000 (about $15 to $19) starting July 1, 2026. The Family membership will increase from ¥4,500 to ¥5,800 (approximately $28 to $36).

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is also getting more expensive. The yearly cost for a single person will go up from ¥4,900 (about $31) to ¥5,900 (about $37), and the Family plan will increase to ¥9,900 (around $63).
Nintendo Switch Online prices will also be changing in South Korea, and more regions are expected to see price adjustments soon.
So, Nintendo finished up their announcement by basically saying sorry if the price changes mess things up for us players and everyone else involved. They really appreciate us understanding, which… yeah, okay, thanks Nintendo.
