Nintendo has consistently supported playing classic games on its newer systems, but accessing titles from older generations hasn’t always been smooth. Often, the selection has been limited and the cost to play them has been surprisingly high, meaning Nintendo’s track record with retro gaming hasn’t been perfect.
Nintendo is constantly working to enhance how classic games are presented. Their recent Virtual Boy releases demonstrate a fresh approach to older titles, and rumors suggest Nintendo DS games could be revamped next.
We learned about this thanks to Mike Odyssey, who recently shared some of his patents with the gaming community.
New patents reveal three potential methods for the next Nintendo Switch to support dual screens, similar to the Nintendo DS.

Image Via Nintendo
One option is a Dual-Screen mode, where each image appears on its own separate screen – similar to how the Nintendo Wii U worked. In fact, the Wii U also supported games originally made for the Nintendo DS, so this approach has been done before.
The second option displays the main image normally, while showing the second screen as a smaller picture in the bottom-left corner. It’s pretty easy to understand how it works, but having part of the screen covered isn’t ideal.
Okay, so we’re thinking I should be able to switch between the different views whenever I want. I know it might *sound* annoying, but honestly, it probably won’t be as bad as it seems. It definitely makes checking both screens a little trickier, but let’s be real, I could *never* see both at the same time anyway – that’s just how eyes work! Still, hitting a button to change views feels a bit clunky compared to just glancing down naturally.
What Nintendo DS Games Will Come To Switch 2 First?

Besides the recent announcement, Mike Odyssey also revealed potential major titles for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. These games are currently listed as pending patents, so confirmation isn’t guaranteed, but appearing on this list significantly increases their chances of being developed for the new console.
The showcased games included popular titles like New Super Mario Bros., Metroid Prime Hunters, and Tomodachi Life. Mario is a key feature, and both Metroid and Tomodachi Life are also getting new games on the console. These titles would be a perfect fit for promoting a new Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Growing up, my Nintendo DS was almost entirely dedicated to playing Pokémon, so I wouldn’t have been shocked if it wasn’t included with the new releases. But if you’re like me, you can relax – Pokémon always manages to find its way onto new platforms, sometimes even where it probably shouldn’t be!
