At the heart of discussions in Las Vegas during this week’s Consumer Electronics Show is Nintendo‘s upcoming console, rumored to be named Switch 2. The buzz is amplified by peripheral company Genki’s claims of knowing what Nintendo has in store. Now, for the first time, Nintendo has decided to speak up regarding the leaks surrounding their plans.
The representative confirmed to CNET Japan, as translated by Automaton, that the gaming equipment claimed by Genki as Nintendo hardware at CES was indeed authentic and not supplied to them by Nintendo itself. In simpler terms, the gaming gear Genki presented as Nintendo’s at CES was officially their own, not given to them by Nintendo.
At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Genki showcased a prototype of the Switch 2, stating they had obtained design details from a genuine Switch 2 console they had come across. However, their surprise grew when media outlets paid attention to it. Later, Genki clarified to Game Spark that their prototype was actually constructed using leaked information, not firsthand knowledge of the system, implying they do not possess any real insights into Nintendo’s future plans for the Switch 2.
Genki predicted during CES that the Switch 2 might debut in April 2025. Besides the rumors stemming from Genki, other sources have hinted at unveiling the preliminary details of the Switch 2’s updated Joy-Cons. These new Joy-Cons could come with a fresh feature and an improved ergonomic design.
It’s been verified that Nintendo plans to unveil their upcoming console no later than March 2025. This suggests the announcement might be imminent. There is anticipation among many that the console will follow shortly after, possibly by the end of the same year.
The new model, whether it’s called The Switch 2 or something else, faces a significant challenge in living up to its predecessor’s success, having sold over 146 million units and 1.3 billion games.
