As someone who grew up with the chatter of Cranky Kong echoing through my living room, I can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia as Nintendo continues to breathe new life into the classic Donkey Kong Land trilogy on Switch Online. I remember the days of huddling over our Game Boys, trading tips and strategies with friends as we navigated the treacherous terrain of the Lost World. The arrival of Donkey Kong Land 3, followed by its equally beloved predecessor, has truly sent me on a trip down memory lane.
In a similar vein, Nintendo has now made available the entire Donkey Kong Land trilogy through their Switch Online subscription. Today marks the arrival of Donkey Kong Land 3 on this service, yet there’s still a strong demand for Donkey Kong 64. Unfortunately, it seems the DK Rap will need to be postponed for now.
Originally launched in 1997 on the Game Boy, Donkey Kong Land 3 puts Dixie and Kiddy Kong front and center as they embark on a quest to find the mythical Lost World. Just like Donkey Kong and Diddy did before them, these two must navigate through 36 levels while facing off against the troublesome Kremlings.
Just over two weeks back, Nintendo added Donkey Kong Land to their Switch Online platform. A week later, Donkey Kong Land 2 was also made available through the subscription service. In the near future, we can expect Donkey Kong Country Returns HD to debut on Switch next month, which is an enhanced version of the original Wii game.
Recently, Nintendo’s been adding fresh games quite swiftly to their Switch Online library. Starting December 12, Tetris for NES will join the subscription service, while three Sega Genesis games were added to Switch Online + Expansion Pack just last week.
Switch Online costs $20 a year for individuals, while the premium Expansion Pack option goes for $50 annually. The basic tier offers access to the Game Boy library–including the Donkey Kong Land trilogy–while the Expansion Pack tier offers up Genesis titles as well as Nintendo 64 games (plus more).
