The famous swords from Ninja Gaiden 4 – Ryu Hayabusa’s Dragon Sword and Yakumo’s Takeminakata – have been crafted into real-life versions, bringing these iconic weapons out of the game and into the hands of fans.
The project was carried out by Xbox, Team NINJA and PlatinumGames, in partnership with master swordsmith Yuya Nakanishi and the Masahiro Tantoujou Sword Forge. It took months of work using traditional Japanese swordsmithing techniques to recreate the blades as more than simple replicas.
Legendary weapons
Throughout the Ninja Gaiden series, the Dragon Sword has always been the Dragon Clan’s most important weapon. In Ninja Gaiden 4, when combined with the Eye of the Dragon jewel, it transforms into the True Dragon Sword, granting Ryu the strength needed to overcome new enemies.
As a fan, I’ve always been fascinated by Yakumo’s connection to the Raven Clan. It’s cool how his fighting style, using the Takeminakata blade, ties into their history with cursed weapons. He uses this technique called Bloodbind Ninjutsu to basically pour his own life force into the blade and other haunted weapons, which makes him a seriously dangerous fighter and really defines his place in the story. It’s a destructive, but awesome, ability!

Both the Dragon Sword and the Takeminakata were carefully crafted to look just like their in-game counterparts, while also honoring the time-honored techniques of Japanese artisans. Every detail, from the Dragon Sword’s smooth surface to the feather accents on the Takeminakata, was thoughtfully considered.
