Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Drops Today, Included In Xbox Game Pass

At the Xbox Developer Direct event in January 2025, Koei Tecmo unexpectedly released Ninja Gaiden 2 Black for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. This action game can also be found on Xbox Game Pass.

The revamped version of the 2008 game is being touted as the best way to experience it, and producer Fumihiko Yasuda shared during an interview with Xbox that they aimed to provide fans something enjoyable while awaiting Ninja Gaiden 4. They opted for Ninja Gaiden 2 because it’s one of the strongest action games in the series.

The term “Black” in reference means this edition of Ninja Gaiden 2 is intended to be the optimal playing experience, much like the original Ninja Gaiden was upgraded with the extra Hurricane content packages.

The suggestion for refining the game originated from fan input during the launch of the Ninja Gaiden Master Collection in 2021. Fans yearned for an experience more akin to the original Ninja Gaiden 2, prompting developers to aim at remastering it using Unreal Engine 5.

Yasuda clarified that in creating this new version, we’ve carefully blended elements from Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 while preserving the original 360 version’s difficulty and atmosphere, noteworthy for its intense gore and violence. Additionally, he mentioned that the weapon upgrade system has been modified to better match the initial release.

Recently, there’s been a significant revival in the popularity of Ninja Gaiden. At The Game Awards 2024, Koei Tecmo unveiled Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, a 2D platformer developed by the creators of Blasphemous. More recently, Koei Tecmo announced Ninja Gaiden 5, the latest installment in the series, in collaboration with Platinum Games. This new game is scheduled to release this fall for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and will also be available on Xbox Game Pass.
