Nicole Kidman Almost Gave Up Acting in 2008 After Having First Child With Keith Urban: I Was Like, ‘I Think I’m Pretty Much Done Now’

As a seasoned movie critic with decades of cinematic exploration under my belt, I must say that Nicole Kidman‘s career trajectory is nothing short of extraordinary. Her ability to reinvent herself time and again, coupled with her unwavering dedication to her craft, is truly inspiring.

Nicole Kidman almost left Hollywood for good in 2008.

Following her relocation to Nashville and welcoming her initial child alongside country legend Keith Urban, the Academy Award recipient initially believed her acting days were over and wished to focus entirely on her newly formed family. However, this changed when her mother intervened and encouraged her not to stop pursuing her career.

When my child, Sunday Kidman-Urban, was born, I felt like I had accomplished enough and thought, ‘I believe I’m ready to call it quits now,'” Kidman shared with CBS News. However, my mother advised me not to quit entirely, saying, “‘Keep a toe in the water.’ I protested, insisting that I was done for good. She urged me to keep going, saying, ‘Just listen to me. Keep pushing forward. You don’t have to continue at the same pace as before, but I wouldn’t give it up completely.’

After heeding the advice given to her, Nicole Kidman earned her third Oscar nomination three years later for her leading role in “Rabbit Hole.” Subsequently, she appeared in several movies including “Just Go With It,” “Hemmingway & Gellhorn,” “Stoker,” and “The Railway Man.

Kidman noted, ‘She was born in an era lacking the chances I’ve had; yet, she contributed to the opportunities her daughters enjoy.’ So, it’s likely she yearned for such opportunities during her own childhood.

Actress Nicole Kidman is set to share screen time with Harris Dickinson in the upcoming A24 erotic thriller titled “Babygirl.” The movie, slated for release on Christmas day, revolves around the character Romy, portrayed by Kidman, who is a powerful CEO. Her professional and personal lives take an unexpected turn when she develops a romantic interest in a considerably younger intern at her company, played by Dickinson, potentially jeopardizing both aspects of her life.
