Actor Nick Frost recently shared a surprising story about landing the role of Hagrid in the new Harry Potter TV series. He revealed in a Q&A with The Guardian that, on his partner’s suggestion, he tried to “manifest” the part by writing the name “Hagrid” 7,000 times after watching all the Harry Potter films back-to-back.
Frost has also spoken about J.K. Rowling’s controversial views on transgender rights. In an interview with The Observer last year, he stated that while Rowling is entitled to her opinion, it doesn’t align with his own. He also expressed that the controversy surrounding Rowling shouldn’t simply be ignored, suggesting it’s an opportunity for education and discussion rather than something to be wished away.
Interestingly, right as actor Jeremy Allen White was discussing his character’s abilities, HBO’s CEO, Casey Bloys, gave a more specific timeframe for the highly anticipated, yet divisive, new series. He told Deadline they’re still aiming for a 2027 release, but now expect it to be in early 2027. When pressed for a more precise date, Bloys clarified they weren’t ready to commit to a specific month, reiterating that it would be ‘early 2027’.
The series also stars Paapa Essiedu as Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and John Lithgow, who may be taking on his last role as Professor Dumbledore. Hans Zimmer will compose the music, and J.K. Rowling is an executive producer.
