If you’re a fan of the movie Face/Off starring Nicolas Cage, you only have a few days left to watch it on Netflix before it’s gone. Although Nicolas Cage isn’t always known for action roles like Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger, he’s still starred in a lot of great action films.
Nicolas Cage began appearing in action films in the late 1990s, quickly becoming known for movies like The Rock and Con Air. He’s continued to take on action roles in films such as Mandy and Drive Angry, but many fans still consider his 1997 film Face/Off to be his greatest action movie.
Face/Off Is Leaving Netflix On January 19, 2026
Throughout January, a few popular movies will no longer be available on Netflix. These include Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. Fans hoping to watch John Woo’s classic film Face/Off will need to do so before January 19th, as it will be removed from the streaming service soon.
Initially, the movie Face/Off was envisioned with actors like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the leading roles. However, when John Woo became the director, he simplified the script by removing much of the science fiction and focusing instead on dramatic storytelling and intense action.
The movie is a wildly entertaining action spectacle. Nicolas Cage and John Travolta both deliver incredibly over-the-top performances, competing to see who can be the most dramatic, while director John Woo creates action sequences that are unmatched by anyone else. It was also a unique opportunity for Cage to fully embrace both exaggerated acting and surprisingly delicate emotional moments.
Face/Off Is Nic Cage’s Best Sci-Fi Action Movie
Though not his most challenging role, Face/Off is widely considered Nic Cage’s finest performance in science fiction or action films. Director John Woo truly excels at action, and that’s clear in memorable sequences like the airport shootout at the beginning and the thrilling speedboat chase at the end.
The movie is packed with creative science fiction ideas, and it really explores the fascinating concept of a man becoming his greatest foe. Compared to other sci-fi films starring Nicolas Cage, like Knowing or Next, Face/Off is far more impressive.
If you haven’t seen it, this movie is essential viewing. Hollywood rarely creates action blockbusters this good – or quite this unique. It’s a fantastic blend of thrilling action, intelligent science fiction, heartfelt emotion, and genuinely funny comedy.
Everyone jokes about Face/Off online, but it’s still a truly unique movie. There’s talk of a sequel directed by Adam Wingard, possibly bringing back John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, but it would be hard to surpass the original film, even if it does happen.
