To mark its 100th anniversary in 2026, the NHK Symphony Orchestra has announced a series of concerts. Two of these concerts will highlight music from popular video games: Dragon Quest IV and the Pokémon franchise.
I’m so excited! The first Dragon Quest IV orchestra concert is happening on Friday, February 27th at 7:00 PM! It’s going to be at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre with Tatsuya Shimono conducting the NHK Symphony Orchestra. They’ve mentioned they *might* add more show dates and locations later, which is awesome news for those of us who can’t make it to Tokyo!

The Pokémon Classic Concert Tour is planning a four-city tour across Japan. Led by conductor Kanade Yokoyama, the group will perform in each city one after the other from August 21st to 24th.
Here’s the current schedule for the Pokémon orchestral concerts performed by the NHK Symphony Orchestra:
- Friday, August 21, at 07:00 PM JST – Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre
- Saturday, August 22, at 03:30 PM JST – Kyoto Concert Hall
- Sunday, August 23, at 02:00 PM JST – The Symphony Hall in Osaka
- Monday, August 24, at 07:00 PM JST – Acros Fukuoka
