WWE and its fans worked hard to make John Cena’s last appearance on Monday Night Raw memorable, and the event at Madison Square Garden lived up to the hype. Although there wasn’t a celebrity host, many stars were in attendance, including local New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo. Some fans, however, criticized his involvement in a particular segment.
After suffering a serious ankle injury that needed surgery, Skattebo will miss the rest of the NFL season. He recently appeared on Monday Night Raw and had a planned interaction with wrestlers Dominik Mysterio, Finn Bálor, and J.D. McDonagh. Some fans were upset he was at the wrestling event instead of focusing on his recovery and football career.
Here’s what the star posted on X to those who took issue with the segment:
If you’re bothered by me enjoying myself despite going through a difficult time, feel free to unfollow. I can’t play football anymore, so I’m finding other ways to stay positive and happy. Have a good week, and if you don’t have anything nice to say, please don’t talk about me.
Skattebo seems to want fans to trust that he’ll be back on the football field when he’s ready and to refrain from speculating. While he recovers, he’s following in the footsteps of players like George Kittle and Rob Gronkowski by trying his hand at professional wrestling with the WWE.
Cam Skattebo appeared in a pre-planned segment on Monday Night Raw, but it doesn’t appear to have interfered with his recovery. The segment mainly involved him and comedian Andrew Schulz facing off against the Judgment Day stable, and Schulz might be preparing for a role in the upcoming Street Fighter movie. You can watch it here:
I’ve definitely seen NFL players do stranger things on WWE television – usually involving Pat McAfee. But honestly, Cam Skattebo was just asking for a little understanding. He’s a person first, and a star athlete second. He needs time to recover from an injury and shouldn’t have to rush back before his ankle is fully healed.
If Cam Skattebo was receiving a weapon from someone like Bron Breakker, that would be a different story. Some fans are understandably curious about how involved he might become with WWE. We’ve seen this before with celebrities – they start at ringside, then suddenly they’re performing in the ring, like Jelly Roll. He’s even planning a return, so it’s not far-fetched to think Skattebo could do the same. The timing is a little tricky since he’s already injured and his team isn’t doing well, but anything is possible.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see if any past stars return to the show, but fans can still enjoy new episodes of Monday Night Raw on Netflix. Although John Cena isn’t currently scheduled to appear, Netflix subscribers can revisit his past performances in the show’s archives.
