Microsoft is preparing to share news about Halo. The game’s developer, Halo Studios, has confirmed it will showcase “what we’ve been working on” at the Halo World Championships this October, as originally announced back in June.
In a recent blog post, Halo Studios announced that the team will be on the main stage to “talk about it.” They’ve also scheduled a detailed panel discussion that Halo Studios promises will be unmissable.
So, everything’s happening on Friday, October 24th. That’s all Microsoftsaid – they didn’t even hint at whether we’ll be hearing about new games, or if this announcement is about something completely different. I’m honestly really curious to see what it is!
Whatever the case, Microsoft has already confirmed it’s working on multiple new Halo projects.
During the 2024 Halo World Championships, Microsoft unveiled the “A New Dawn” trailer. This trailer showcased early ideas for future Halo projects being developed in the Unreal Engine, including Project Foundry. At the same event, Microsoft also announced that 343 Industries would be changing its name to Halo Studios.
Halo Infinite, released in 2021, is the newest core game in the Halo series. Since then, Microsoft has undergone significant changes, bringing in a new leadership team and planning to use different game engines for upcoming titles. They’ve also admitted that Halo Infinite didn’t quite meet expectations. Xbox head Matt Booty described the game’s launch as being similar to a runner stumbling just before crossing the finish line.
Halo Infinite represented the final game made using our traditional methods. That was how we always approached Halo development,” explained studio head Pierre Hintze. “Now, we’re essentially changing our approach and trying something new.”
Reports suggest Microsoft is considering bringing the Halo franchise to the PS5 and the upcoming Switch 2, potentially as early as this year. The plans reportedly involve a remastered version of Halo: Combat Evolved. With 2026 being the 25th anniversary of both Xbox and Halo, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has indicated that a new Halo project could launch next year, alongside new installments in the Fable and Gears of War series.
