As a gaming enthusiast, I recently got a glimpse of the upcoming Virtua Fighter project by Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku, showcased at CES 2025. But let me clarify that what we saw wasn’t actual gameplay – it was just concept footage, a sneak peek into the game before the development process truly kicked off.
In a brief 35-second clip, we encounter a gritty setting, referred to as “The City,” where crime and desperation thrive, drawing in the unscrupulous and those at the end of their ropes. The camera sweeps across this urban jungle to reveal a scuffle between two figures. Remarkably, these combatants are modeled after Akira, the emblematic character from Virtua Fighter.
In the scene that follows, health bars on the upper part of the screen pop up, and the two characters engage in a fierce exchange of punches. Eventually, one character delivers a powerful kick to the other, sending them flying into a stack of crates, concluding the dramatic sequence.
At The Game Awards 2024, Sega unveiled a sneak peek at the upcoming Virtua Fighter game. As of now, neither a launch date nor the platforms on which it will be available have been officially disclosed.
In the interim, gamers can anticipate the release of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., which is a PC adaptation of the main series game. This new version will be available starting January 27th. Some exciting new additions include rollback netcode support and improved graphics.
