New SUR-vers Attempt to Re-create Magic on Vanderpump Rules

It’s been almost 13 years since Vanderpump Rules first aired, quickly becoming a fan favorite after starting as a spin-off of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Now, Bravo is giving the show a fresh start with a whole new group of servers and managers. While the original cast has moved on to other projects like The Valley, Love Island, and Vanderpump Villa, season 12 of VPR will introduce a new set of personalities ready to bring the drama. Lisa Vanderpump is returning, and Bravo recently released a trailer on November 3rd, giving viewers their first look at the new cast in action.

The preview kicks off by reminding viewers of all the memorable moments from the original Vanderpump Rules. It opens with Stassi Schroeder’s iconic line from the very first episode – “I am the devil, and don’t you forget it” – and closes with a nod to Scandoval. Including Scandoval might have been a misstep, though. It’s tough for any trailer to compete with eleven seasons of highlights, and this one is no different. The new trailer doesn’t have any lines as instantly quotable as Stassi’s famous declaration, but it’s worth remembering that line wasn’t in the first season’s trailer either.

The new season of the show features a lot of unexpected drama, starting with a storyline about a penis pump involving cousins Jason Cohen and Chris Hahn, who were on Netflix’s Dated & Related. It’s a bit surprising to see Bravo, known for its reality TV, casting people from other networks’ shows, but we’ll have to wait and see how the drama unfolds. Another pair on the show is Marcus Johnson and Kim Suarez, who are in a rocky on-again, off-again relationship – likely not to last, judging by past seasons. Rounding out the cast are Shayne Davis, known for stirring up trouble, Audrey Lingle, Natalie Maguire (a bartender and singer), manager Demy Selem, and Angelica Jensen, who seems caught between Shayne and Jason in a love triangle. Viewers will soon learn to either love or hate them all!

The show now openly embraces LGBTQ+ themes more than ever before. Venus, a new main cast member, is the first gay man in a leading role on VPR, which is notable considering the show frequently depicted West Hollywood Pride events. The teaser ends with Venus, sporting long orange hair, standing between two nude men, prompting Lisa Vanderpump to question if the scene is appropriate. Venus playfully responds, pointing out it is Pride season.

Before the new season starts, Bravo will air a special called Raise Your Glass to 11 Seasons on November 25th, looking back at the show’s first eleven seasons and introducing the new cast. Then, season 12 of Vanderpump Rules premieres on December 2nd, so you can start comparing everyone to Kristen Doute from the very beginning!
