A new Star Trek movie is in the works.
Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are a writing and directing team known for their work on comedies. They previously wrote the screenplays for films like Horrible Bosses, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. They made their directorial debut with the 2015 film Vacation, and have since directed Game Night (2018) and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023).
According to Deadline, Matt Goldstein and Corey Daley are writing and directing a new Star Trek film for Paramount Pictures. They’re also producing the movie through their production company, GoldDay.
What do we know about the new Star Trek movie?
Details about the movie’s story are currently secret. However, it’s confirmed this film will offer a fresh, standalone story within the Star Trek universe, completely separate from any existing shows or previous films. This aligns with recent statements from Skydance’s founder, who indicated the next Star Trek movie won’t continue the story with Chris Pine and the existing cast, but will instead introduce a new direction with a new cast of characters. Sources suggest we can expect to see entirely new characters in this version as well.
Further details are not available at this time. A release date has not yet been set.
Beyond those films I already mentioned, I discovered Goldstein and Daley have a really impressive resume! They’ve contributed to some huge projects like Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), the comedy Vacation Friends (2021), and even this year’s The Flash. They’re also working on A Minecraft Movie, slated for 2025. Plus, they’ve got another exciting action-adventure in the works called Mayday, starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh, although we don’t have a firm release date for that one just yet.
The most recent Star Trek film was released in 2016 – it was called Star Trek Beyond. More recently, Star Trek: Section 31 debuted on Paramount+ in January.
