A new report suggests Nintendo might be planning to bring back two popular, classic games on the upcoming Switch 2.
I’m so excited! According to a report from Video Games Chronicle, Nintendo is apparently working on a brand new Star Fox game and a full remake of Ocarina of Time! If the report is true, we might see both of these games released as early as 2026, which would be amazing. Of course, Nintendo hasn’t officially said anything about either one yet, but a new Star Fox and a revamped Ocarina of Time? Fingers crossed!
If true, this would be the first new Star Fox game in almost ten years. The series hasn’t seen a major release since Star Fox Zero came out on Wii U in 2016, and that game was poorly received and didn’t revive the franchise. A new game on the Switch 2 could be a fresh start or a modern update, as Nintendo is currently revisiting many of its older, beloved franchises.
Okay, so everyone was hoping that if Fox McCloud showed up in the new Super Mario Galaxy movie, it would mean a new Star Fox game was on the way. And it looks like we were right! It seems like Nintendo is finally planning a new installment in the Star Fox series.

A reliable source, known as ‘Natthehate’ on his podcast, has claimed that Star Fox will be released on the Switch 2 this summer.
A new Star Fox game is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2026, according to recent announcements.
A source says the new game will play like the original Star Fox on the N64, and it will include a multiplayer mode.
Major Zelda remake reportedly coming in 2026, but no Mario
The new Zelda project is particularly exciting. The original Ocarina of Time is a landmark game, and while it was updated for the 3DS in 2011, this new version seems to be a much bigger reimagining. Although specifics are still unknown, the description ‘major remake’ suggests the game is being completely rebuilt, not just touched up.
According to Nate, a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is expected to be released for the Switch 2 around the holiday season in late 2026.
This timing coincides with increased fan excitement about upcoming events for The Legend of Zelda, as many are anticipating a major announcement to celebrate the series’ anniversary.
A Legend of Zelda movie is planned for release in theaters in 2027.
The report also suggests Nintendo isn’t planning a new 3D Mario game around the same time. This is unusual, as Mario games have traditionally been key to building excitement for new consoles at launch.
Nintendo seems to be focusing on popular, well-known games and revisiting older titles to build a strong selection of games for the next version of the Switch. A new 3D Mario game isn’t expected until 2027, according to reports.

Things are still subject to change. Nintendo hasn’t officially confirmed these projects, and we don’t know when – or even if – they’ll be released.
If the report is true, the Switch 2 might get two highly anticipated games that many players remember fondly.
