Bethesda surprised everyone yesterday by releasing a version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Anniversary Edition specifically for the new Nintendo Switch 2. While some fans were entertained, others were annoyed. It seems owners of the new console weren’t thrilled with the unexpected release either.
Players on Reddit expressed a lot of disappointment with the game’s port. The biggest problem was noticeable input lag, making the game difficult to play. Another issue was that it was capped at 30 frames per second. This was especially frustrating for fans because the game can run at up to 120 frames per second when played on the console while docked.
I expected some performance issues with a Bethesda game, but this is really bad. Honestly, I’d rather play the original Switch version – it ran much smoother.
As a huge fan, I have to say the input lag is really killing me right now. It’s honestly unplayable for me, whether I’m using the console handheld or docked to my TV. It needs to be fixed!
Some players are questioning whether Bethesda truly released an update for the popular game yesterday, or just said it was improved and then put it out. Adding to the confusion, people who bought a physical copy of the game are reporting problems installing the update – some say you have to delete and redownload the entire game just to see the update option on the main menu.
Bethesda has some bugs to squash in the near future, but they’re still keeping details about The Elder Scrolls VI under wraps. Though they haven’t made an official announcement, fans think they’ve found a clue in the trailer for the Skyrim Switch 2 version hinting at a possible release year. It’s unclear if even that information would satisfy eager players, though.
