New Ruby Franke true crime documentary leaves viewers “shocked” over one moment

In a recent release, an engrossing true-crime documentary surfaced, featuring unsettling evidence from the police probe into the Ruby Franke case. The portrayal of husband and father Kevin Franke in one specific instance has left viewers reeling with astonishment.

Previously recognized as a Mormon social media influencer, known for sharing her family’s life with her husband and six children on their YouTube channel, 8 Passengers, Ruby found herself in the spotlight in 2023 when her 12-year-old son, Russell, leaped from a window and sought assistance from a nearby neighbor.

Upon their arrival, police discovered decades of child abuse perpetrated by both Ruby and her professional partner and mentor, Jodi Hildebrant. In the year 2024, February saw both individuals receive sentences that could imprison them for as long as 60 years due to their criminal acts.

Before the Hulu documentary series about the case airs on February 27, Explore With Us true crime channel has already released a one-hour documentary detailing the investigation into the same case. Please be aware that the content could potentially be distressing for some viewers.

Explore With Us drops new Ruby Franke documentary

Under the title ‘Escape from a YouTuber’s House of Terror: A New Documentary’, this production features police camera recordings of the rescue operation, along with troubling evidence of the abuse – such as reports of a honey and cayenne pepper paste supposedly applied to the children’s injuries.

Afterward, we see Rubi and Jodie’s first round of questioning with the police officers following their arrest. However, it’s Rubi’s spouse, Kevin, who stirred the most response.

By this point, Kevin and Ruby were no longer together due to Ruby growing increasingly close to Jodi. Ruby moved out in July 2022. However, it wasn’t until November 2023 that he officially filed for divorce – a move made only a few months after both women were arrested on charges of child abuse.

According to the document, upon their arrival at the police station, the detectives discovered that Kevin was already present, eagerly awaiting them to collect his kids. However, instead, they escorted him to another interrogation room for further discussion.

As a gamer, I’m seen in the video, where detectives grill me about my awareness of the abuse. However, I clarify that at the time, my role was merely financial support and I didn’t interfere or have an active presence in their daily lives.

In his marriage with Ruby, there are specific questions he chooses not to discuss or provide answers for, such as the ways he disciplined his children during that time.

In the end, the authorities confronted Russell with their findings: it turned out that he had fled Jodi’s home in search of sustenance, and they discovered duct tape on his wrists and ankles, concealing rope marks where he had been bound.

After being given some time to reflect, Kevin inquired from the officers about his wife’s situation, expressing his affection for her by asking, “Will there be any legal actions taken against my beloved spouse?” or simply, “What will become of my wife? I am deeply attached to her… are you planning to pursue charges against her?

Kevin Franke faces backlash

Despite the primary focus on the details of the case and the crimes committed by both Ruby and Jodi being heavily criticized, this newly released documentary has left viewers astounded by Kevin’s apparent concern for Ruby, rather than his own children.

One person commented that they had learned his children were being restrained, mistreated, and malnourished, and he inquired about his spouse’s fate. Instead of asking about his kids, he asked about his wife. What a terrible man, deeply involved,” said one.

The author expressed astonishment that “the father of these children did not inquire about the fate of his offspring, yet had the nerve to inquire about his spouse instead. Remarkably, he also declared love for her after all that was revealed about their son. Such behavior is hard to comprehend.

A year ago, there were reports saying I was trying to gain custody over my four minor children since the older two had already moved out. However, one comment from a spectator hit a nerve: “It’s unthinkable that Kevin Franke should ever be granted custody again.

Another person stated that it wouldn’t be appropriate for the father to gain custody of his children. He has proven untrustworthy and has neglected their welfare completely.

Others have commended the actions of the responding officers, particularly noting their patience and empathy towards Eve during the time they spent with her for a total of four hours, until she felt secure enough to open up.

One person stated, “I’m really relieved how the police dealt with the young girl. Instead of physically grabbing her, which could have been simple due to her size, they showed great understanding of the intense distress she was undergoing. They opted for a more delicate approach, being gentle and patient instead.
