Can you believe it’s already mid-January 2026? We’ve already seen a lot of excellent shows on streaming services, and the movies released this month have been really good. That quality continues this week with six must-see shows and one fantastic movie.

Star Search January 20 (Netflix)
If you were a kid in the 1980s, you probably remember Star Search, the talent show that launched the careers of many famous people, including Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Drew Carey. Now, Netflix is bringing back the show for a new audience, and we’re sure to see some new stars emerge. Anthony Anderson is the new host, taking over from Ed McMahon, and the judges this time around are Jelly Roll, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Chrissy Teigen.

WWE Unreal Season 2 – January 20 (Netflix)
For years, professional wrestling openly acknowledged it was entertainment, not a real sport. But it wasn’t until the first season of WWE Unreal that fans got a true look at how storylines and matches are actually created. Now, Netflix and WWE are continuing their collaboration with a second season that promises even more surprising reveals.

Steal – January 21 (Prime Video)
Sophie Turner is generating buzz with the initial glimpse of her as Lara Croft in the upcoming Prime Video Tomb Raider series. But before that, you can catch her in the new Prime Video series Steal, where she plays a woman unexpectedly caught up in a large-scale robbery at her job.

Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man! – January 22 (HBO Max)
Let me tell you, Mel Brooks is a true legend. Seriously, few people have had the impact he’s had on comedy, both on television and in movies. There’s a fantastic new documentary out taking a look at his amazing life and career – nearly a century of making people laugh! And get this, he’s still working on things – apparently, a sequel to Spaceballs is actually in the works! Can you believe it?

The Smashing Machine – January 23 (HBO Max)
It looks like you didn’t catch The Smashing Machine in theaters, but those who did – including director Christopher Nolan – say Dwayne Johnson’s performance is incredible. Luckily, you can watch it now with an HBO Max subscription!

UFC On Paramount – January 24 (Paramount+)
Even though more people are streaming TV, live sports remain a major draw. Switching to streaming hasn’t been easy, as fans used to need ESPN+ and extra fees to watch UFC events. Now, UFC fans will need a Paramount+ subscription, but a premium subscription will cover the cost – there are no additional charges.
January isn’t quite finished, and we’re still waiting for the return of Bridgerton and the first Marvel movie of the year. Luckily, both are coming next week, along with other new releases!
