I’ve been eagerly waiting for more than two years now since the last installment in the Need for Speed series hit the shelves. The game, titled Unbound, was released to mixed reviews and its latest major update arrived at the end of last year. Unfortunately, there’s no sign of another one on the horizon. To add to my disappointment, Electronic Arts vice president Vince Zampella has hinted that we might not be seeing a new Need for Speed game any time soon.
As per details from Eurogamer about Criterion Games studio, they are currently contributing to the development of the latest Battlefield series installment. Vince Zampella disclosed that at present, the entire team is lending a hand in this work. Previously, it was reported by EA that only a section of the team responsible for NFS Unbound was assigned to this project. However, it seems like additional resources were required.
Despite Zampelli stating that Criterion studio has been gathering fan feedback on Unbound for the upcoming installment of the series, it might take some time before we learn about the new title due to the fact that they are currently dedicating all their efforts to Battlefield 7, hence they cannot work on the next Need for Speed (NFS) in the interim.
Criteria team is now collaborating with their fellow team members on the project titled “Battlefield”. It was crucial for us, as a company, to dedicate the past year to hearing from our “Need for Speed” community and incorporating their suggestions in developing content for “Unbound”. This statement comes from Vince Zampella.
It’s uncertain when exactly the latest edition of “Need for Speed” will hit the shelves, as we’re not sure where in the development process it currently stands. However, the vice president’s remarks give us confidence that the game will indeed be produced someday. It might just bring a new lease of life to the series altogether.
To deliver a more satisfying Need for Speed experience based on player feedback, we aim to reintroduce the series with fresh and engaging concepts.
