New Mass Effect-style science fiction action RPG doesn’t take realism lightly. The Expanse: Osiris Reborn will „bring the cosmos to life”

Owlcat Games is gradually sharing information about their upcoming action RPG, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn. Announced in June 2025, the game is set in the universe of the popular TV show The Expanse (based on the novels of the same name) and feels similar to the Mass Effect series. The developers recently released a diary discussing their focus on creating a realistic experience.

The upcoming science fiction story, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, aims for a realistic feel. While it’s not a simulation, it will be more down-to-earth than games like Mass Effect. To ensure accuracy, the developers consulted with former NASA astronauts and an International Space Station commander to portray life in space authentically.

The game aims for a high level of realism, especially in how weapons work. This includes accurate ballistics, realistic recoil, and believable sound. Sounds won’t simply stop; players will feel the vibrations from gunfire and explosions, but they’ll be heavily muffled – even masked by the character’s own breathing. Also, instead of ropes, characters in zero gravity will use special magnetic boots to move around.

To make the game world feel truly believable, we’re including small, realistic details. For instance, astronauts often lose their sense of taste in space, so characters might reminisce about the foods they love – specific meals or ingredients – to add a touch of everyday life.

As of today, a release date for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn hasn’t been announced. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
