Alongside the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, it appears that a fresh installment of Mario Kart may also be on the horizon, hinted at subtly in the unveiling event.
After a long period of anticipation, we’ve received the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2, featuring innovative joycons, an upgraded screen, and advanced features. Although more details won’t be unveiled until April, Nintendo didn’t stop there – they also disclosed what appears to be a fresh Mario Kart game tailored for this next-generation console.
Mario Kart revealed for Nintendo Switch 2
For over a decade now, it’s been 11 long years, since a fresh Mario Kart game graced our gaming platforms. The last original installment, Mario Kart 8, rolled out in 2014. Since then, we’ve primarily enjoyed remastered versions and additional platform features. But with the upcoming Switch 2, there’s a strong possibility that this trend could be broken!
Additionally, the unveiling trailer for the Nintendo Switch 2 introduced gamers to an entirely fresh installment of Mario Kart.
In the brief preview, twelve characters are shown speeding through an expansive desert landscape. At certain instances, they appear to weave in and out among non-player character (NPC) vehicles. This might hint at the addition of dynamic obstacles or barricades within the game’s environment.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to see familiar faces like Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Peach, Toad, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and even Baby Mario, all gearing up for an exhilarating race in this new Mario Kart game! The unique karts and vines they’re racing on are unlike anything we’ve seen before in previous installments, which only serves to underscore the freshness and excitement this title promises to bring to the franchise.
Additionally, it appears that the number of racers at the end of the video exceeded 12, implying that future races might involve a greater number of participants, possibly hinting towards Mario Kart 9 featuring bigger competitions.
As of now, neither a release date nor a title has been disclosed, however, considering it was unveiled concurrently with the Switch 2, we can anticipate its launch to coincide with the debut of the upcoming handheld console. More details will be shared during the Nintendo Direct on April 2.
