New Look at the Latest MCU Hero Unveils Marvel’s “Best Show” Yet

Marvel just dropped a new trailer for Wonder Man, a series already getting a lot of positive attention and being called one of the best MCU shows in the works. The series centers on Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), an actor trying to get the starring role in a reboot of a classic superhero film – also called Wonder Man. It looks like the show will be a funny, self-aware look at the superhero movies and TV shows that Marvel is famous for.

The new trailer for Marvel’s Wonder Man focuses on an actor trying to win the role, but also implies that Simon Williams might already have superpowers. While many thought Williams would gain powers during the show, possibly through a special process during auditions with director Von Kovak, the trailer suggests he might have them from the start. When Williams says, “I was born to play this character,” it seems he means it literally – he could have superpowers when he goes to the audition. You can watch the trailer below.

‘Wonder Man’ Kicks Off Marvel’s Ambitious 2026 Slate

The upcoming series Wonder Man is being created by Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Andrew Guest, a producer on Hawkeye. Ben Kingsley will return as Trevor Slattery, the character he played in Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi, and will portray a friend and fellow actor of Simon Williams. Demetrius Grosse (Banshee) will play Eric Williams, Simon’s brother and the villain Grim Reaper, and Ed Harris will play Neal Saroyan, Simon Williams’ agent.

Following the release strategy of shows like Echo and Marvel Zombies, all episodes of Wonder Man will be available on Disney+ on January 27, 2026. Originally, the series was scheduled to finish out Marvel’s 2025 projects, but the release was moved from December to avoid competing with popular holiday movies and shows. Now, Wonder Man will kick off Marvel’s 2026 lineup, which also includes Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, Season 2 of X-Men ’97, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Season 2 of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, VisionQuest, and ultimately, Avengers: Doomsday.

Similar to She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, the upcoming Wonder Man series appears to be a humorous take on the superhero genre, and it will likely poke fun at the Marvel Cinematic Universe itself. The marketing campaign has already embraced this self-aware style, with the character Simon Williams even appearing at the premiere of The Fantastic Four: First Steps to discuss the fictional Wonder Man project within the MCU. As Marvel continues to experiment with longer-form television shows, Wonder Man could be the start of a new trend.
