New Look at Milly Alcock in ‘Supergirl’ Revealed

Summer 2026 is shaping up to be a huge season for movies, with big titles like Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey already announced. Among the most anticipated releases is Supergirl, the second film from DC Studios. Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, the movie will continue the story started by James Gunn in Superman, as well as his TV shows Peacemaker and Creature Commandos. Because Supergirl is the first DCU film made by a director other than Gunn, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding it.

A new image from USA Today offers fans their first look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl. Alcock is well-known for her role as Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon, making this her first major film role. The movie’s first trailer, released last month, hinted at a different feel than James Gunn’s Superman film – a darker, more science fiction-focused story that appears to take place largely in space, exploring the wider DC Universe.

The newest image released showcases Supergirl inside what appears to be a spaceship, hinting at the film’s new direction. The initial trailer notably featured Supergirl mostly out of her iconic blue and red suit, saving the full reveal for the very end. Director James Gunn has confirmed that Kara Zor-El had a vastly different upbringing compared to Clark Kent, which likely explains her reluctance to embrace a costume tied to her Kryptonian heritage. Ultimately, this latest image creates a sense of excitement and confirms that this film will tell a unique story, distinct from Gunn’s previous work on Superman.

‘Supergirl’ Is Just One of Three Big Projects for DC Studios in 2026

Warner Bros.

Milly Alcock is poised to become a major star as Supergirl in the new DC Universe. Her quick appearance in Superman generated a lot of excitement, and her portrayal of a more complex, troubled Kryptonian is expected to be a key part of Craig Gillespie’s next film. James Gunn’s upcoming movie, Man of Tomorrow, will bring back David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, likely joining forces against Brainiac. This could open the door for Alcock’s Supergirl to return and help fight this alien enemy as well.

DC Studios has exciting plans for 2026, including the release of the Supergirl movie in the summer, a new TV show, and another feature film. Lanterns, a series, will debut on HBO around mid-2026, followed by James Watkins’ movie Clayface (written by Mike Flanagan) in theaters on September 11th. With a film about a Kryptonian hero and another centered on a classic Batman villain, the first phase of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe, titled Gods and Monsters, promises to be epic.
