New Invincible Episode Bounces Back From Record Low Rating to Near-Perfect Score

Invincible came flying back from its all-time record low IMDb rating.

Season 4 of Robert Kirkman’s graphic, animated series has generally been well-received thus far. The first three seasons boasted extremely high Rotten Tomatoes scores, all scoring between 98% and 100%. However, the latest season’s score on IMDb was less than what fans have come to expect, with episode 4 receiving a measly 6.7.

The latest episode of Invincible, titled “Give Us a Moment,” has received an exceptional 9.8 rating on IMDb. Initial reviews suggest it’s potentially the best episode of the season, which is a significant improvement considering some fans previously thought this season was the weakest yet.

Episode 5 features a long-awaited conversation between Omni-Man and his wife, Debbie, who hadn’t spoken since the end of the first season. Actress Sandra Oh hinted that this meeting was crucial. The conversation ended with a physical altercation, leaving Debbie with a bloody hand and firmly telling Omni-Man to leave and never return.

Considering how things ended and how content Debbie appeared – particularly during that peaceful dinner with Mark, Atom Eve, Oliver, and Paul – a reconciliation seems very improbable. This development will significantly shape the characters and their relationships in future episodes.

In Episode 4, titled “Hurm,” Mark found himself on a detour through Hell – the first time the show ventured into that location. Many viewers saw this episode as a lighter break from the season’s main storyline. It introduced Damien Darkblood, a demon detective, and focused on the group’s fight against Volcanikka, a formidable warrior made of lava.

This recent episode felt separate from the main storyline, and some viewers weren’t as interested in it. The Ringer described it as slowing down the season’s progress. However, episode 5 has been very well-received, with many fans saying it successfully returned to what made the show work so well.

Near the end of the series Give Us a Moment, Invincible finally gets a second chance to fight Conquest. The battle is exactly what viewers have come to expect from the show – a hard-hitting and violent clash where Invincible is almost defeated. Though Invincible appears to win and survive, despite being severely injured, the fight hints that the war with the Viltrumites will continue once he recovers.

As a huge fan, I’ve always loved how Invincible balances incredibly intense, graphic action with genuinely compelling characters and stories. The contrast between the last couple of episodes really drove that home for me. If this recent shift in quality is anything to go by, I’m getting really excited about what’s still to come in season 4 – it feels like the biggest, most impactful moments are still on their way.

Invincible season 4 is currently streaming on Prime Video, with new episodes dropping weekly.
