It’s rare these days for anything to remain a surprise, and HBO’s upcoming series is no exception. While it’s not scheduled to arrive on HBO Max until 2027, fans have already caught peeks at what’s in store since filming began this summer.
The upcoming Harry Potter TV series has sparked discussion among fans, including the director of the first two films, Chris Columbus, regarding how closely it resembles the original movies. Recent photos shared by the Wizarding World Direct X account show a scene that will be very familiar to viewers: Harry’s first flying lesson, where he flies after Neville Longbottom’s Rememberall, which Draco Malfoy throws. The photos also offer a first look at the actors playing Neville and Draco, and a preview of the new Hogwarts uniforms.
Dominic McLaughlin will star as Harry Potter in the new series, with Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy and Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom. These roles were famously played by Daniel Radcliffe, Tom Felton, and Matthew Lewis in the original films. Photos from the set suggest Alistair Stout will be playing Ron Weasley, a role previously held by Rupert Grint, and a stunt double for him was also spotted.
As a huge fan, I was really surprised and excited to see Louise Brealey – best known as Sherlock’s Molly Hooper – stepping into the role of Madam Hooch! Zoë Wanamaker originally played her, and it’s cool to see a fresh face. Apparently, they filmed these new scenes at Ashridge Estate in Hertfordshire, which is a gorgeous location. Fun fact for fellow Potterheads: that same estate was used for the Quidditch World Cup scenes in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire back in 2005. It’s always neat to spot familiar places in these films!
