Dominic McLaughlin shared a memorable story on BBC’s Saturday Mash-Up! Live about the day he received a surprising letter. He was traveling home to Glasgow by train when his father gave it to him. As he read the letter and saw who signed it, he was completely shocked.

“It was unbelievable!” McLaughlin said, smiling. “My dad handed me a letter on the train. As I read it, I saw the initials ‘D.R.’ at the end, and I was so excited I could hardly contain myself, but I knew I had to stay calm. I was still on the train at the time.”

Last month, Daniel Radcliffe shared that he wrote a supportive note to the new Harry Potter actor. The kind gesture clearly resonated with McLaughlin, who won the coveted role after a huge number of people auditioned.

In a past interview with Good Morning America, Daniel Radcliffe shared a heartwarming feeling when seeing photos of the young actors currently playing his former role. He said seeing them reminded him of how young he was when he started, and he just wants to give them a hug. He finds it both amazing and sweet that they’re experiencing this at such a young age, and hopes they’re enjoying themselves.

The tradition of passing the baton has continued with Rupert Grint also writing a letter to Alastair Stout. As the new cast films the series, they have the full support of the original actors, which is creating excitement for the planned 2027 premiere on HBO and Max.
