HBO’s New Game Of Thrones Spinoff Could Last Quite Some Time
HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is proving to be very popular. A key sign of a show’s long-term success is how many people watch it, and this Game of Thrones spinoff is doing exceptionally well. According to FlixPatrol, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is currently the most-watched show on HBO Max globally, and each new episode continues to draw in large audiences.
Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is currently being filmed and is expected to premiere in 2027, establishing a yearly release schedule for Game of Thrones spin-offs on HBO. Showrunner Ira Parker recently revealed to Esquire his long-term vision for the show: he plans to create 4 to 5 seasons of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms every decade.
The show was planned in three stages. It would begin with 4 or 5 seasons focusing on Egg’s childhood. Then, after a decade, the story would return to show Egg as a prince. The series would conclude with another 4 or 5 seasons, finishing with Egg as a fully grown adult, marking the end of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Why A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Running For 30 Years Is What The HBO Series Needs
There are three key reasons why focusing the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms spinoff on seasons 12-15 of the original series would be a smart move. Firstly, it would help the new show stand out from other Game of Thrones adaptations. A series that explores characters’ lives over a span of thirty years is a relatively uncommon approach to storytelling.
It’s also worth noting that George R.R. Martin has already told us how the stories of Dunk and Egg end in his books. I won’t reveal those details for viewers who only know the characters from the HBO show, but their ultimate fates are established. Because of this, and with the show taking place over thirty years, the series could show the complete lives of these characters, leading up to their deaths.
To prevent needing to find a new actor for Egg, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms could advance the story in 10-year increments, with each time jump covering 4-5 seasons. Dexter Sol Ansell embodies the character so well – he truly feels like he’s stepped directly from the source material.
Because time passes in real life, Ansel would be the perfect age to portray Egg at various points in his life within A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
