New Free-To-Play Gran Turismo Game Revealed, And It's Out Very Soon

As a seasoned racer with years of virtual driving under my belt, the announcement of My First Gran Turismo has me reminiscing about my humble beginnings in the world of Polyphony Digital. The thought of a more accessible entry point into this legendary racing series brings a smile to my weathered, calloused thumb.

Sony unveiled “My First Gran Turismo,” a free-to-play racing game coming to PS5 and PS4 on December 6. This accessible introduction to the franchise offers various play modes, and it’s compatible with the upcoming PlayStation VR 2 technology.

In a PS Blog post, Kazunori Yamauchi, president of Polyphony Digital, stated that this game isn’t merely about play; it’s about embarking on a personal automotive journey. The game has been designed to be user-friendly, enabling anyone to take control and grasp the basics like turning, braking, and accelerating. As players progress, they will gradually improve their driving abilities by overcoming new challenges set before them.

In this new version of Gran Turismo, you’ll find a variety of racing and time-trial courses, plus three “Music Rally” events to enjoy. You can also participate in License Tests and there are 18 distinct vehicles to discover. Some of the tracks you’ll be able to race on include Kyoto Driving Park, Deep Forest Raceway, and Trial Mountain Circuit. Similar to previous Gran Turismo series, the emphasis will be on developing real-world driving abilities.

After finishing your initial version of Gran Turismo, players will be given the opportunity to move all 18 cars amassed to Gran Turismo 7, should they decide to upgrade to that game. It’s noteworthy that at this moment, Gran Turismo 7 is discounted to $30 at Best Buy, making an upgrade to a more advanced racing simulator quite budget-friendly.

In March 2022, the latest installment of Gran Turismo, titled Gran Turismo 7, hit the shelves, and much like its predecessors, it received rave reviews for its stunning visuals, engaging gameplay mechanics, and expansive personalization features.
