Recent data shows that Marvel’s new Disney+ series, Wonder Man, didn’t perform well in its first couple of weeks. It’s surprising, considering the show finished filming nearly two years before it was released, but it seemed to quickly appear and disappear from view—likely because it only had eight short, 30-minute episodes. As a smaller-scale Marvel project, Wonder Man wasn’t heavily connected to the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that may have contributed to its lower viewership, despite positive feedback from both fans and critics.
Disney+’s Wonder Man attracted 549.6 million minutes of viewership within its first 10 days (January 27 – February 5), according to data from Luminate and reported by Variety. Viewership started strong with 135 million minutes watched in the first three days, then increased to 414.6 million minutes over the following week.
After only two weeks on Luminate’s chart (February 6-12), Wonder Man no longer appeared in the top 10 most-watched titles. This means its viewership numbers decreased, falling below those of Netflix’s His & Hers, which remained at number 10 with 287.8 million minutes viewed – a full month after its January 8th release.

Looking at past performance, Luminate’s data shows how previous Marvel series on Disney+ have done. For example, the first nine days of Agatha: All Along saw 377 million minutes viewed, but only after three episodes were released. In comparison, Wonder Man had eight episodes available at once, giving viewers a full binge-watching opportunity.
The new series Daredevil: Born Again performed even better than Wonder Man, racking up 629.4 million minutes of viewership in its first ten days (March 4th to 13th). It’s worth noting that Born Again achieved this with longer episodes – between 45 minutes and an hour – compared to Wonder Man.
Luminate isn’t the sole source of streaming data; Nielsen also measures viewership, but hasn’t released figures for Wonder Man yet. Despite Born Again having more viewers according to Luminate than Wonder Man, it didn’t appear on Nielsen’s charts – a first for any Marvel Cinematic Universe show. This suggests Wonder Man won’t make Nielsen’s charts either.
The song “Agatha All Along” started at number 8 on the Nielsen charts with 426 million minutes streamed, but its popularity grew after the finale, reaching number 5 with 744 million minutes streamed. However, it’s important to note that data from Nielsen and Luminate can’t be directly compared because they use different methods for tracking.
As a critic, I’ve been watching the numbers, and Wonder Man seems to be having a bit of a bumpy ride. After a quick drop out of the Luminate charts in its second week, it’s clear the show isn’t seeing the usual week-over-week growth we often expect. I think the biggest reason is that Disney+ released all the episodes at once – while critics and audiences loved it, that binge-watching format doesn’t seem to be building momentum the way a weekly release might.
Even though Daredevil: Born Again started with low viewership numbers, Disney+ has already renewed it for a third season, set to return on March 24th. This is encouraging news for the future of Wonder Man, particularly after insider Daniel Richtman reported that Marvel Studios is almost certain to renew that series as well.

Nielsen’s Disney+ Data Reveals the MCU’s Decline (And What Should Change)

We don’t have viewership numbers for Daredevil: Born Again from Nielsen, because it didn’t rank among the top 10 shows – unlike all other live-action Marvel series on Disney+. However, data from other shows reveals that Marvel’s streaming numbers peaked around the first season of Loki in 2021, and have since leveled off and recently begun to decrease.
- WandaVision – 434 million minutes (two-episode premiere)
- The Falcon and the Winter Soldier – 495 million minutes
- Loki Season 1 – 731 million minutes
- Hawkeye – 852 million minutes (two-episode premiere)
- Moon Knight – 419 million minutes
- Ms. Marvel – 249 million minutes
- She-Hulk – 390 million minutes
- Secret Invasion – 461 million minutes
- Loki Season 2 – 446 million minutes
- Echo – 731 million minutes (five-episode binge)
- Agatha All Along – 426 million minutes (two-episode premiere)
- Daredevil: Born Again – under 419 million minutes (two-episode premiere)
- Ironheart – 526 million minutes (three-episode premiere)
Despite Nielsen’s generally negative view of Marvel’s TV series, it’s evident that releasing entire seasons at once hasn’t been successful with viewers. For instance, Echo received the same amount of watch time with five episodes as Loki did with just one three years prior, and the first three episodes of Ironheart didn’t even surpass the viewership of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s single premiere episode.
Marvel Studios is shifting its focus to shows designed to run for multiple seasons, releasing a new season each year and gradually building a dedicated fanbase. They’re hoping this approach will work for shows like Born Again, which returns in March, and Wonder Man, if it gets renewed for a second season.
Despite a somewhat disappointing launch, Wonder Man likely had a lower budget than other MCU shows due to its focus on character development rather than large-scale action sequences. However, the studio might consider making adjustments for the second season.
Wonder Man was definitely a fun and engaging show, easily ranking among the better series on Disney+ thanks to its humor and diverse storytelling. But a longer season with more episodes would have been even better, giving audiences more time to enjoy the world of Simon Williams and his acting career.
