Neve Campbell has perfect idea for Ghostface twist in Scream 8

Neve Campbell, best known as Sidney Prescott from the Scream movies, has a great idea for who should play Ghostface in a potential eighth installment, if Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media decide to make it.

The newest movie centers on Sidney as she works to protect her daughter, Tatum (Isabel May), from a new Ghostface killer who has been carefully plotting their attack for a long time.

Matthew Lillard, who famously played Ghostface in the original 1996 ‘Scream’ film, is returning for the seventh movie! Of course, this being ‘Scream,’ his comeback is sure to be full of twists. It’s a bit of a mystery how he’s back considering his character seemingly died when Sidney dropped a TV on him. Could there be an even more surprising villain involved?

TopMob recently interviewed Neve Campbell, and during their conversation about the upcoming 2026 film, she shared who she thinks would make the ideal Ghostface killer in Scream 8.

Before the new movie comes out, actress Neve Campbell addressed fan theories with TopMob, suggesting viewers should be wary of Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox). She noted that the determined reporter seems to always be present whenever a new Ghostface emerges.

“She does happen to show up every time… That should be suspect! What’s that about?” she said.

With the next Scream film focusing on Sidney’s family history, it would be a surprising and fitting twist to reveal Gale Weathers as the new Ghostface. Her job as a true crime journalist provides a believable reason for her to be investigating the murders, and conveniently covers up her own involvement if she were to start killing again to revive her career.

Campbell also mentioned Lillard’s character returning in the next film, joking that if Stu survives, Sidney will be furious that the TV show didn’t prevent the killings.
