Netflix’s ‘The Boys From Brazil’ Adds Gillian Anderson, Daniel Brühl, and More

Netflix is moving forward with its series based on Ira Levin’s novel, The Boys from Brazil, and has added Gillian Anderson and Daniel Brühl to the cast. The show, announced earlier this year, will begin filming across Europe next month. Joining them are actors August Diehl, Lizzy Caplan, and Shira Haas.

According to Variety, Peter Morgan’s next big project will be The Boys from Brazil. This new series will reunite Morgan with someone he previously worked with on Netflix’s The Crown – a show Morgan created. Both Morgan and Suzanne Mackie will produce The Boys from Brazil, and Mackie shared a statement about the upcoming production.

Following his success with The Crown, Peter Morgan continues to explore the political and personal events that shaped the 20th century and our modern world. He tells these large historical stories through the compelling and relatable lives of individual characters. We’re excited to have brought together an incredibly talented cast and crew, and to be collaborating with director Alex Gabassi once more for this new limited series on Netflix. We’re eager to adapt Peter Morgan’s fresh take on Ira Levin’s The Boys from Brazil for the screen.

The story was first adapted into a movie in 1978. Franklin J. Schaffner directed the film, and it featured Gregory Peck, Laurence Olivier, Lilli Palmer, Uta Hagen, and Steve Guttenberg.

What Can Fans Expect From a New ‘The Boys From Brazil’?

20th-Century Fox

The official logline of the new film as released by Variety is as follows:

Spanning three decades – from the end of World War II into the politically charged 1970s – The Boys from Brazil centers on Yakov Liebermann (Strong), a Holocaust survivor and dedicated Nazi hunter. His lifelong mission to bring Nazi criminals to justice has come at a great personal cost. When a young investigator working in Brazil uncovers a disturbing Nazi plot, Liebermann finds himself in a desperate race against time. He must reveal an unthinkable truth: the sadistic Nazi scientist Johann-Friedrich Meinhardt (Diehl), whom he thought was dead, is not only alive but is masterminding a horrifying scheme to resurrect the Fourth Reich.

I’m really excited about this new take on The Boys from Brazil! Like Levin’s Rosemary’s Baby, the basic idea is pretty wild, but knowing Morgan’s work, I think this version will feel more realistic and explore the story in a deeper way. I don’t want to spoil anything, but it definitely takes some unexpected turns. It’s hard to say how far they’ll go with the more sci-fi parts of the story, but if his previous shows like The Man in the High Castle and Hunters are anything to go by, I don’t think they’ll pull back from the genre elements at all. I’m hoping for something really gripping!
