Netflix is expanding its game selection with a variety of party games. What’s different about these games is you can play them right on your TV, using your smartphone as the controller.
Netflix announced they’re developing a new gaming experience designed to be as simple and accessible as watching a show, according to a recent blog post.
Netflix is adding five new games to its Games section: Lego Party, Boggle Party, Pictionary: Game Night, Tetris Time Warp, and Party Crashers. All five games are multiplayer, meaning you can play them with others.
Netflix wants to be the only entertainment app you need. They envision people gathering to watch a show and then immediately playing a game – all without switching to a different platform. This move seems inspired by the success of games like Jackbox, which let people play on their TVs using their phones as controllers.
Netflix said this is only the start, and encouraged fans to watch for updates and prepare to enjoy games, connect with others, and have fun together on the platform.
Netflix isn’t just for shows and movies! You can also play a bunch of mobile games on your phone or tablet, like Civilization VI, GTA: San Andreas, Solitaire, Farming Simulator 23, Oxenfree, Street Fighter IV CE, Sonic Mania Plus, and Football Manager 24 – and they’re adding more all the time.
Netflix announced in July that it was increasing its focus on gaming. The company initially explored developing a large-scale, high-budget game and brought on experienced talent like Joseph Staten, known for his work on Halo. However, they’ve since cancelled that project because it didn’t fit with their overall gaming strategy.
Netflix is looking for a leader in generative AI to develop and implement strategies for incorporating this technology into its upcoming games.
